GTD inaugurates special training for Town Panchayat Co-op. bank CEO


Mysore/Mysore: deputy GT Devegowda (GTD), who is also Chairman of Karnataka State Co-operative Federation Ltd., today inaugurated a special state-level training program for Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Town Panchayat Cooperative Banks at the Radisson Blu Plaza hotel in the city.

A total of 76 CEOs from 36 banks are participating in the event jointly organized by Karnataka State Co-operative Federation Ltd., Bengaluru, Karnataka State Town Co-operative Banks Federation, Bengaluru, Mysuru District Co-operative Federation Ltd., Mysuru and Co -Operations Department, Mysuru.

In its inaugural address, GTD said cooperative banks in Panchayat city should prioritize education and training and CEOs should be aware of the constant changes in the cooperative law.

“There are 1,574 Town Panchayat cooperative banks in the country, 262 of which are in Karnataka. Karnataka City Panchayat Cooperative Banks has 26 lakh members. While Town Panchayat Cooperative Banks nationwide disbursed a loan amounting to Rs. 60,000 crore, Karnataka alone provided loans amounting to Rs. 45,000 crore,” he said added.

Observing that cooperative banks in the city of Panchayat provide loans for vegetable vendors, small entrepreneurs and education, the MLA said loans cannot be given for government projects. “There are problems in some banks that are poorly projected. CEOs should raise awareness of the good work done by banks. They should also highlight the financial empowerment work that is being done by cooperative banks in the city of Panchayat. I was a fair deposit owner to begin with and from there I grew to where I am today. The cooperative sector offers many opportunities for growth,” he said and asked the CEOs to ensure that more members are registered in the city’s cooperative banks.
